Utica Crescent eliminated the need for bulky hot water storage with a dual-unit tankless design.
In the heart of Brooklyn, providing reliable domestic hot water for a major multi-family development like Utica Crescent requires smart engineering. Mechanical space is always at a premium in urban environments. To meet the high-volume demands of residents at 564 Utica Ave without dedicating massive square footage to traditional boilers and storage tanks, the property opted for a purely tankless solution.
Expertly installed by the team at BTU Inc., the system features two Intellihot iQ1501 units. This configuration delivers a massive 3 million combined BTU/hr of on-demand heating. By utilizing masterless cascading technology, the two units work in tandem to perfectly match the building’s peak usage spikes, such as the morning shower rush. This built-in redundancy guarantees that if one unit requires routine maintenance, the other effortlessly carries the load, eliminating the risk of a building-wide cold water event while keeping the mechanical footprint remarkably small.
