Application Details:

The $200 million Texas A&M Space Institute building sits on 32 acres at NASA’s Exploration Park, just outside the access-controlled area of the Johnson Space Center. It is the first building in Exploration Park and is meant to serve as a collaboration hub for universities, commercial companies and government agencies working in space research. The facility includes secured research “garages” for experimental robots and vehicles, lab spaces, offices, classrooms and an auditorium. A building like this needs a hot water system that is dependable, efficient and compact.

The institute selected three Intellihot iN501 Neuron units, which together provide 1,500,000 BTU/hr of installed capacity with zero gallons of storage.

The units use Intellihot’s masterless cascading technology to share the load. Each cabinet has multiple heat exchangers, so the system has built-in redundancy and keeps the facility supplied with hot water even during maintenance. The tankless design also leaves more mechanical room floor space for a building with heavy research and lab needs.

Plumb Prime installed the units at the facility and also completed the startup.
