Modern Hot Water for Creative Minds: ASU Student Housing Upgrades with Intellihot

Partner Spotlight: RKS Plumbing & Mechanical + Okland Construction

Site Details:

Arizona State University (ASU), one of the nation’s largest and most innovative public universities, is known for its commitment to sustainability and high-performance infrastructure. As part of its continued efforts to modernize campus living, the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts Student Housing facility recently upgraded its domestic hot water system using Intellihot’s high-efficiency water heating technology.

Located in the heart of ASU’s Tempe campus, Herberger Housing serves hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in one of the largest comprehensive design and arts schools in the U.S. The high occupancy, 24/7 usage demands, and mission for sustainable living called for a smarter, more reliable water heating solution.

Application Details:

To meet these rigorous demands, RKS Plumbing & Mechanical and Okland Construction coordinated a seamless installation of two Intellihot commercial floor-standing units: the iQ751 and the iQ1001.

These units offer:

  • On-demand performance with no storage tanks—eliminating standby loss and legionella risk

  • Thermal efficiency of up to 94%, helping reduce energy consumption significantly

  • Scalability and redundancy, ideal for campus environments with fluctuating demand

  • Compact design, freeing up valuable space in mechanical rooms for future system expansion
