DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Columbia is beautifully designed and decorated, and it is located in a park-like setting 20 minutes from Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. The hotel enjoys proximity to major corporations and military/government agencies such as Northrup Grumman, Lockheed Martin, APL/Johns Hopkins, Nestle/Dryers, Sun Microsystems, the BWI Airport and Washington D.C. The site includes a heated indoor pool, whirlpool and a 24-hour fitness center. It also has a full-service restaurant and bar, a breakfast buffet, guest and commercial laundry facilities, and a special event area for up to 300 guests.

The Problem

The hotel relied solely on two boilers and a 1000-gallon storage tank to produce its domestic hot water, and the huge storage tank had started leaking badly. A breakdown of this nature would mean loss of income while the site shut down for an emergency replacement. If the hotel was unable to provide a basic service to its customers, its reputation was on the line.
