A Swedish chain started electrifying its DHW systems. Here’s how two Intellihot Electron iE1 tankless heat pump units were installed at its College Park, MD.

A renowned Swedish home goods retailer is embracing electrification. They are working aggressively towards their goal of being powered by 100% renewable energy, as well as increasing its energy efficiency by 2025. Electrifying their water heating systems with tankless heat pump water heaters is one such exciting initiative that they implemented in their College Park, MD location.

Application Details:

The outlet in College Park, MD. is one of 51 stores that the Swedish retailer operates in the United States. The College Park location requires hot water for its lavatories, in addition to the bistro and kitchen which serves delectable Swedish meals.

In order to deliver endless hot water sustainably and reliably, two Intellihot Electron iE1 Max units were chosen. The units are set up with 2 smaller electric resistance under-sink water heaters. Intellihot’s applications team has been working with the retail chain’s facilities & engineering team, along with the project’s contractors to ensure the retail outlet is able to design a reliable system that saves emissions and expenses.

Such efforts will ensure the store never runs out of hot water to stop serving their world-famous meatballs.

About the Electron iE1

Intellihot’s Electron iE1 is the world’s first tankless heat pump water heater. With a COP of 4.9, the iE1 is an integrated tankless heat pump water heater featuring a specially-designed thermal battery.

The retail chain chose the iE1 as the product provides commercial properties with the most reliable pathway towards electrification using heat pump water heaters. Requiring no storage, the units save significant amounts of space. Thanks to Intellihot’s six-dimensional sizing calculator, the heat pump units can be sized accurately with a guarantee arising out of the tool’s ability to map the heat pump’s performance during  different seasons and times of day, among other variables.

What's Next?

The store in College Park, MD is one of many outlets where the retailer plans to electrify its DHW system. Plans are underway to install the Electron units in more locations across North America. With the help of Intellihot’s remote monitoring service, as well as Intellihot’s applications team, the retail chain will monitor the performance of its DHW system.

The installation is poised to help the retail chain meet its sustainability goals quicker. Along with projects like a solar car park, the Swedish retailer’s decision to embrace tankless heat pump water heating will allow it future-proof their built environment.
