At Carolina Meadows in Chapel Hill, NC, providing a high-quality living experience for seniors is the top priority. In a continuing care retirement community (CCRC), reliable domestic hot water isn’t just a basic amenity—it is a critical necessity for resident safety, health, and daily comfort. To meet the immense, high-volume demands of its residents without relying on outdated, inefficient storage tanks, the facility upgraded its infrastructure to a modern tankless solution.
Located at 100 Whippoorwill Ln., Carolina Meadows installed a robust system featuring four high-efficiency Intellihot iN501 units. This configuration delivers an incredible 2 million BTUs/hr of on-demand heating power, easily handling the morning shower rush and the heavy operational demands of the facility’s dining and wellness centers.
By utilizing Intellihot’s Masterless Cascading technology, the four units operate as a single intelligent system. When demand is low, only the necessary units fire up, minimizing energy consumption. Most importantly, this setup guarantees built-in redundancy. If one unit requires routine maintenance, the others seamlessly absorb the load to ensure residents never experience a drop in water temperature. By eliminating bulky storage tanks, Carolina Meadows reclaimed valuable mechanical footprint and eliminated the continuous energy waste of heating stagnant water, perfectly aligning with a commitment to top-tier, efficient facility management.
