As part of the cities plan to spend 300 million dollars to upgrade 11 developments that house 24,000 people, NYCHA was looking for upgrades to its Long Island Baptist Houses by going from Low Efficient Boiler Tanks to High Efficient Domestic Water Heaters. Intellihot’s Tankless On-Demand Water Heaters were the perfect fit.
Long Island Baptist Housing is a property that is part of a public housing development located in Brooklyn, NY (East New York). This property is managed and operated through The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), providing Brooklyn tenants affordable housing units. NYCHA is a New York State public development corporation that provides public housing in New York City and officially has just under 400,000 people living within their buildings. It was the first agency in the United States to provide housing for low- and moderate-income residents throughout the five boroughs of New York City.
Long Island Baptist Houses needed a water heater upgrade from their low efficient steam boiler and tank setup. The boiler room was difficult to do maintenance and service work in. The system was being used 24/7/365 even during the warm months when no heat was needed, this massive combination system was running just to heat water and using much more energy than necessary for their hot water needs.
The Intellihot Solution
By decoupling the water and heating systems and installing Intellihot high efficiency, on-demand, tankless water heaters, all buildings can provide hot water more efficiently while allowing boilers to be shut down and serviced
during the summer months, leading to additional energy savings. With Intellihot’s technology, building owners are now able to monitor the use and energy through remote monitoring via the mobile app.
